Albert Rivera in favor of marijuana regulation
Albert Rivera, the Ciudadanos candidate for the presidency of the Spanish government, stated in an interview on El Hormiguero 3.0 that he is in favor of regulating marijuana.
Rivera stated: “I am in favor of regulating marijuana use. Adults should know how harmful smoking marijuana is, but they should also be able to consume it and know where and how to obtain it. The mafia is not the solution. Banning something that already works is not the solution. And furthermore, I want to prevent minors from accessing these drugs. I want to regulate it, as is done in some other countries.”.

As he stated in an interview on Onda Cero last April, he supports opening the debate on the possible legalization of some soft drugs like cannabis, noting that tobacco and alcohol are legal. He believes the goal is not to increase drug use but to reduce it through education and regulation.
The cannabis sector will have to pay attention to these upcoming elections, as three Spanish political parties are in favor of cannabis regulation (United Left, Podemos, and Citizens), while the PSOE is open to opening a debate and the PP is against it.
