Andalusia calls for the regulation of medicinal cannabis
The non-legislative proposal urging the central government to regulate the cultivation and production of cannabis, in an associative and non-profit manner, for its medicinal, scientific and research use has been approved by the Andalusian Parliament.
The Andalusian parliament has approved the initiative presented by Podemos and supported by the PSOE and IU, Ciudadanos abstained and the PP voted against it.
This proposal was defended by Juan Ignacio Moreno Yagüe, a Podemos deputy, who brought a pot of marijuana to the podium to symbolize it. Ciudadanos added a new point to the motion, calling for a system to evaluate the impact on public health, particularly on the quality of life of patients receiving cannabis treatment.
Moreno Yagüe has defended the use of cannabis for both medicinal or therapeutic purposes and recreational use, arguing that in Spain the average number of regular consumers is three million people and stating that the illegal trafficking of cannabis generates problems at various levels.
However, the proposal to regulate the use of cannabis for recreational or medicinal purposes, whether for individual or commercial use, has not been approved, but the parliamentary group has approved an amendment from the PSOE asking the Government to create an intersectoral working group to discuss it at the health and legislative level.
