Hollywood celebrates marijuana in California
This past Monday, January 2, 2017, the city of Los Angeles awoke to find its iconic "Hollywood" sign replaced with "Hollyweed." This commemorates the legalization of marijuana use, possession, and sale in the state of California.
According to CBS, around midnight, an individual climbed the hill where the iconic Hollywood sign is located and placed tarps over the letter "o" to make them appear as "e". The words "Hollyweed" could be read. The Los Angeles Police Department is reviewing security camera footage to identify the person responsible.
This isn't the first time the sign has been altered to display the word "Hollyweed." On January 1, 1976 (exactly 41 years ago), Danny Finegood, a fine arts student, changed the sign to celebrate the enactment of a law decriminalizing marijuana possession in the state of California.
