Inauguration of the International Church of Cannabis
The International Church of Cannabis will inaugurate its headquarters in Denver, Colorado, on April 20, 2017. This date was chosen because it is a day to celebrate cannabis culture, especially in the United States (4/20).
The site where the Church will be located is a 113-year-old building that was formerly a Lutheran church and has been painted by two famous painters with vibrant colors.
The church will serve as a meeting place for all those who "smoke the sacred plant to find inspiration and meaning.".
Church members are called “elevationists” and do not recognize any divine authority or authoritarian structure, therefore they accept people of all religious and cultural backgrounds.
One of the church's founders states that "Our position is that cannabis is a sacrament and that we use it to elevate our lives and achieve the best versions of ourselves.".
