The practice of Yoga with marijuana: Ganja Yoga
The combination of yoga with marijuana is known as Ganja Yoga; it is said to increase consciousness and awaken the inner god.
Canadian Dee Dussault created this yoga system 10 years ago; today, about 25 people attend each Ganja Yoga session.
Dussault claims that combining marijuana use with yoga practice helps "to find ecstasy through relaxation, a clear mind, and sensuality.".
This practice has become very popular in Colorado, Canada, and now in California.
Marijuana enhances the benefits of yoga classes
According to studies, marijuana works as a muscle relaxant and analgesic, which is why it increases the benefits in yoga classes.
To practice Ganja Yoga in California, attendees must present a medical marijuana prescription, but as of January 2018, this may change and allow it to be practiced without a medical prescription.
The first 30 minutes of the class involve participants gathering and consuming marijuana in various ways (smoking, eating, infusion, etc.), followed by an integration circle and ending with a yoga class.
But Ganja Yoga isn't just about mixing "cannabis and exercise," which, as you may have experienced, is already quite enjoyable. According to Dussault, "It's a ceremony that makes conscious relaxation an intentional ritual, a lifestyle that helps create a stress-free world.".
The Washington Post described it this way: “Think of it like peanut butter and chocolate. Each is fantastic on its own, but when you put them together, they're amplified.”.
