The data analyzed comes from the U.S. government's National Survey of Family Growth. More than 28,000 women and about 23,000 men were asked how often they had had sex in the past four weeks and how often they had smoked marijuana during the past year.
Smoking marijuana increased sex in couples
The results showed that women who did not smoke marijuana had an average of six sexual encounters in the past four weeks, while women who smoked marijuana daily had an average of 7.1 sexual encounters during the same period.
As for men, the average number of sexual encounters for those who were not marijuana users was 5.6 during the last four weeks, while for men who had smoked daily in the last four weeks, the average was 6.9 sexual encounters.
Previous research with rodents and humans has shown that marijuana use can increase arousal; however, there are also studies that show that smoking too much marijuana can decrease sperm count.
It's important to remember that very frequent marijuana use can have other health impacts, such as irritating the lungs and increasing heart rate.
