Michigan approves recreational use of marijuana
As of December 6, 2018, recreational marijuana use will be fully legal in the state of Michigan, where medicinal use was already permitted.
Following the popular vote on this initiative, Michigan will become the tenth U.S. state and the first in the Midwest to legalize recreational marijuana use. The measure passed with 561 votes in favor.
This new law is very important for the United States because approximately 80 million Americans live in the state of Michigan, which represents 251% of the total population of the country.
In December, a regulated system for the cultivation and sale of marijuana will be implemented, allowing adults over 21 to grow up to 12 plants at home, possess 70 grams of marijuana in public, and smoke it.
Josh Hovey, spokesman for the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana and Alcohol, stated that "data from the other nine states that have legalized marijuana has made it clear that regulation and taxation are a better solution.".

First Midwestern US state to legalize marijuana use
We remind you that, to date, Alaska, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and California are the other Midwestern states where recreational marijuana use is permitted, while medicinal marijuana is legal in 32 states across the country.
According to the Gallup poll, while in 1969 only 121% of the US population showed support for the legalization of marijuana, at this time 661% of Americans agree with it, a record high.
