First medical marijuana dispensary in Florida
In Tallahassee, Florida's capital, the first dispensary for medical or therapeutic marijuana, Truelive, has opened its doors. Meanwhile, 18 more dispensaries are in the process of receiving state approval to open.
Kim Rivers, president of Truelive, stated that "Having marijuana available for sale and purchase is monumental; this is one of the largest states and has been a turning point for the medical marijuana industry nationwide.".
The therapeutic use of marijuana was approved in Florida in 2014, and activists in the state maintain that it benefits people with cancer, chronic muscle spasms, seizures, and children with epilepsy, but they will continue fighting to ensure the law helps all those in need. A referendum is expected to be approved in November to expand the medical cannabis law to cover more illnesses.
