Proposal to cultivate marijuana throughout Bogotá

Javier Francisco Becerra, the Christian candidate for Bogotá City Council, proposes cultivating marijuana throughout Bogotá and developing the cannabis industry.

Javier, known as “Javis Cannabis,” is 52 years old and considers himself somewhat shy and a bit of a hippie. He works as a nursing assistant and belongs to the Independent Social Alliance (ASI) party.

“Every day it becomes more necessary to change the way politics is done. Politics should be the art of making the city more pleasant, harmonious, and efficient; therefore, today's state should not be tomorrow's state, but rather a state of peace and love, a hippie state, a return to the seventies,” Javier declared.

He defines himself as a defender of marijuana for medicinal, industrial, and recreational use. He is a cannabis activist with limited resources; in fact, he has no political headquarters or office, and his main weapons are his empathy and positive energy.

“Perhaps I’m not the best candidate, but I’m not the worst either. Perhaps I don’t have all the necessary arguments, but I’ve been educating myself about everything related to the city for the last two years. For me, being a politician, or a hippie, or an administrator isn’t enough to get on the City Council; you need other qualities like honesty, closeness to the community, an understanding of the city, someone who lives it day to day, someone who embraces the revolution of the everyday.”.

Javier believes that traditional politics has not worked and that a policy is needed that does not involve personal or group interests of a certain sector.

He believes that: “Cannabis sativa can save humanity, because we are at a critical point due to climate change, and this plant has important properties such as CO2 absorption. But first we must deepen our understanding of it, to prevent myth, lies, and prohibition from harming us. My message is focused on changing that perspective and not falling behind.”.

“Javis Cannabis” is a recreational marijuana user, although he doesn't smoke large amounts and doesn't want people to see him as “the stoner on the corner.” He also doesn't believe that cannabis users generate violence or insecurity and that marijuana doesn't cause dependence or addiction because: “Our nervous system has cannabinoid receptors, which means that our body generates stimuli when we consume the plant, and according to studies, only ten percent of drug users are problematic, whereas the conflicts associated with alcohol consumption are much higher.”.

Javier emphasized that the consumption of alcohol, cigarettes, and psychoactive substances should begin at age 21.

His voice on social media is his Facebook page called 'Cannabis civil rights', rights that have to do with personal freedoms, not only about the consumption of the plant, but also about his political, sexual and religious inclinations.
