Reluctant to the cannabis regulation proposed by ERC
The PP, PSOE and Ciudadanos parties are reluctant to approve the non-law proposal put forward by ERC for the regulation of cannabis in Spain.
The non-legislative proposal made by Esquerra Republicana de Cataluña (ERC) defines the comprehensive regulation of the cultivation, possession and consumption of cannabis.
While the People's Party (PP) has consistently opposed cannabis regulation, the Socialist Party (PSOE) and Citizens (Ciudadanos) have also expressed reservations about approving the proposal, but they haven't definitively decided how they will vote and are committed to opening the debate. Without the support of these two influential parliamentary groups, the Republican Left of Catalonia's (ERC) proposal is doomed to failure.
The deputy spokesperson for the PSOE in the joint commission for the study of the drug problem, Senator Pepe Martínez Olmos, has stated that although the vote is not yet defined, his party is in favor of opening the debate taking into account the consequences of cannabis on people's health.
