Sale of marijuana for recreational purposes in Oregon

Starting this Thursday, businesses in Oregon have begun selling marijuana for recreational purposes.

Customers can buy up to seven grams at a time, in addition to plants and seeds.

In Oregon, there are over 250 establishments that already sold marijuana for medicinal purposes, and these businesses have now begun selling marijuana for recreational use. The owners of these establishments are hopeful that they can avoid price increases and shortages like those that occurred last year in Washington and Colorado.

Chris Byers, owner of the River City Dispensary in Merlin, stated, "I'm basically trying to stock up for four or five times what would be the normal volume.".

Furthermore, Oregon law stipulates that sales will be tax-free until January, representing a savings of 20% for customers, and to encourage their sales some stores are also offering discounts of 35 to 40% and offering drinks.

Oregon law states that an adult over 21 can possess up to eight ounces of marijuana at home and cultivate up to four plants that are not visible to the public. If that person is out in public, they can carry up to one ounce of marijuana.

“It’s the end of a prohibition,” declared Davia Fleming, a Portland resident and medical marijuana user.
