Dangers during the cannabis growth period

Several factors affect the health of cannabis plants and can jeopardize crop growth. One of the most common dangers during the vegetative stage is root rot caused by overwatering and insufficient substrate oxygenation. Crop failure is directly linked to the grower's experience and the seed variety. Autoflowering varieties are more prone to failure than feminized varieties if not properly cared for.

Once the plant has passed the germination stage, you need to pay close attention to excess water and lack of moisture in the leaves and stems.

Dangers to growth due to over-irrigation

Seedlings have very few roots and their needs are minimal; they eat and drink little. If we saturate the substrate with too much water, we will stunt root growth. Since the plant doesn't yet have a well-developed root system, the small roots will gradually rot, causing irreversible damage.

If we carry out the vegetative stage using small 1L pots, we'll ensure good drainage and that the substrate dries out much faster. We should then transplant to larger pots as the plants grow, thus preventing overwatering. This is why autoflowering varieties are more at risk, as they are usually transplanted directly into larger pots.

Experience tells us that we must water with the appropriate amount of water and nutrients for the size of the cannabis plant. Since our first priority is root health, it's important to use a root stimulator from the very beginning. If we rush the plant's growth, we can cause over-fertilization.

One of the most common dangers in plant growth, especially for novice growers, is having a very moist, nitrogen-rich, and warm substrate (between 15 and 24°C), which can lead to the appearance of fungi such as Fusarium or Rhizoctonia. Both cause root rot and the death of the plant.

During this vegetative stage, the plant primarily needs nitrogen, potassium, light, and water, making irrigation crucial. You must be well-informed about cultivation parameters and nutrient dosages. Providing the necessary nutrients at this stage ensures a good harvest.
