The Balearic Islands approve studying the therapeutic use of cannabis

On Tuesday, the Balearic Parliament approved a non-binding resolution calling for a study to regulate cannabis clubs and its therapeutic use. The proposal was presented by the eco-nationalist coalition MÉS, the PSOE, and Podemos.

The recognition of the therapeutic use of cannabis in the Balearic Islands also received the support of the PP and C's parties. This point of the proposal specifies that it applies to patients for whom cannabis can be a complement or substitute in the treatment of various symptoms, as well as providing training and care within the public healthcare system.

The second point of the proposal specifies the regulation of the activity of cannabis associations and clubs and proposes creating a specific public registry for these associations.

Finally, the proposal also includes a point that advocates for the development of new health information, promotion and prevention programs regarding drug addiction, specifically aimed at young people.

According to David Abril, spokesperson for MÉS, and Carlos Saura, deputy for Podemos, it is not about legalizing cannabis but about regulating a social reality from a rigorous and serious position.
