The government legalizes the controlled self-cultivation of medicinal cannabis in Argentina and also access to oils or derivatives in authorized pharmacies.
This news marks a paradigm shift in the local landscape, following years of total global prohibition. Until now, possession of seeds and plants, even in private and for personal or therapeutic use, was punishable under the drug law (23.737) with up to 15 years in prison. At least in the medical aspect, this regulation means the end of that injustice.
Through decree 883/2020, published in the Official Gazette, a new regulation of law 27,350 on the medicinal use of cannabis was announced.

He REPROCANN The Cannabis Program Registry is the program that the Ministry of Health will implement to register patients or organizations using medicinal cannabis in Argentina. Users can register for use as a medicinal, therapeutic, and/or palliative treatment for pain. Users can also register to obtain cultivation authorization themselves, through a family member, a third party, or a civil organization authorized by the Implementing Authority. According to the official document, registered users must have a medical prescription and have signed a consent form.
According to the government, the new regulations were designed to provide a balanced response between the right to health and health safety. They also promote the creation of a network of associated public and private laboratories to ensure the quality control of the products manufactured.
Limits on medicinal cannabis in Argentina
The limits on the number of plants allowed in each home or at organizational headquarters are not yet known. The Ministry of Health is expected to draft specific regulations soon.

The new national regulations come after yesterday's anticipation of today's debate in the Buenos Aires legislature on the bill regulating the medicinal use of cannabis in the city of Buenos Aires.
