A study shows that cannabis oil improves the symptoms and quality of life of patients with Crohn's disease. Furthermore, it has no effect on intestinal inflammation.<\/p>\n

Cannabis oil relieves the symptoms of Crohn's disease in 651% of patients.<\/h2>\n

This study, conducted by researchers in Israel, demonstrated that after eight weeks of treatment with cannabis oil, up to 65% of participants experienced clinical remission. Forty-six people with moderately severe Crohn's disease were treated. Some received cannabis oil containing 15% CBD (cannabidiol) and 4% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), while others received a placebo.<\/p>\n

The study was conducted over eight weeks. At the end, it was observed that patients treated with cannabis oil had a significant reduction in disease symptoms compared to the group of patients who had been treated with a placebo. An improvement in the quality of life was also observed in the patients treated with cannabis oil.<\/p>\n

The European Gastroenterology Unit (UEG Week 2018) meeting was held in Vienna. Dr. Timna Naftali, the study's lead researcher, participated in the meeting. She explained that, "Cannabis has been used for centuries to treat a wide range of medical conditions, and studies have shown that many people with Crohn's disease regularly use cannabis to relieve their symptoms.".<\/p>\n

Knowing this, Dr. Naftali began working on the study.<\/p>\n

Symptom severity and quality of life were measured before, during, and after treatment. Inflammation in the intestine was assessed by endoscopy and by measuring inflammatory markers in blood and stool samples.<\/p>\n

Medicinal cannabis as an additional treatment<\/h2>\n

To their surprise, the study showed no statistically significant improvements in endoscopic scores or inflammatory markers in the group treated with cannabis oil. According to Naftali, cannabinoids are known to have anti-inflammatory properties, but the study indicates that the improvement in symptoms may not be associated with these properties. It is proposed that further research into the potential anti-inflammatory properties of cannabis in the treatment of Crohn's disease be conducted in the future.<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Naftali, for now we can consider medicinal cannabis as an additional treatment.<\/p>\n
