China is the latest country to join the boom in marijuana regulation. However, it strictly prohibits its consumption and harshly prosecutes its distribution and cultivation.<\/p>\n

The growing international demand for cannabis-related products in recent years has opened China's eyes.<\/p>\n

Although since time immemorial some provinces of China produced cannabis and hemp for medicinal, spiritual or textile purposes, the communist regime around the 1980s prohibited any type of production and eliminated all crops.<\/p>\n

But currently, the government allows a small group of companies to cultivate hemp and produce CBD (cannabidiol). Over 145 hectares have been authorized for cultivation in Yunnan province, in the south of the country, a region with a long history of hemp farming. The CBD production is destined for export to Canada and the US, where the federal government has relaxed its policies regarding its therapeutic use.<\/p>\n

China produces 501,320 tons of the world's industrial hemp, but restrictions are very high. And it doesn't want to miss out on the huge figures that drive the global cannabis business. .<\/p>\n

Currently, the most sought-after product is CBD due to its multiple uses, both medicinal and edible.<\/p>\n

China is now aware that this trend is global. Canada has regulated its use, consumption, and sale, and the US has more than 10 states that permit its use. Meanwhile, in Europe, various voices are advocating for its legalization.<\/p>\n
