It all began last year when the cannabis advocacy group 'Americans for Safe Access' filed a lawsuit against comments made by the DEA on its website. The website contained an explanatory manual about different drugs, and one section, titled 'The Harms of Marijuana Abuse,' stated that marijuana was a gateway drug to other substances, that its use caused brain damage, and that it created and increased psychosis in users.<\/p>\n
The organization 'Americans for Safe Access' requested that the claims made by the DEA be withdrawn, as they lacked any proven clinical support. The DEA, deeming it inappropriate, did not comply, and it was then that the court ruled in favor of both parties, forcing the American Administration to retract its statements and remove the information from its website.<\/p>\n
For the director of Americans for Safe Access, this has been a major step forward in their fight against the demonization of cannabis. In her own words, they also hope that the remaining misleading claims about cannabis will be removed and that the public will stop being misled. Only information about the scientifically proven benefits of the plant should be provided.<\/p>\n
