Costa Rica will launch a hemp and medicinal cannabis industry

Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves will sign the regulations for the hemp and medicinal cannabis industry.

The president's goal is to provide new opportunities for industrialists and farmers.

The new law, signed on March 2, regulates and permits access to and use of cannabis and its derivatives for medicinal and therapeutic purposes. According to the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter, this would give Costa Rican farmers and exporters access to a global market worth $1.33 billion annually by 2025.

Additionally, some patients may have access to alternative cannabis treatments.

The medicinal use and production of cannabis and hemp is legal in more than 20 countries, with a pre-pandemic global market of 1 billion people.
